tips to install false ceilings

False ceilings are supposed to be hung from the ceiling joists with a metal grid. The gap between the original ceiling and the joists where wires, pipes, ductwork can install and work on.

False ceiling can either be nailed to the real ceiling or glued directly to the real ceiling or the furring strips that are glued or nailed to the existing one.

Such type of ceiling works very well in both covering over any older existing ceilings or where a lack of height is a concern and false ceiling would drop a bit too low for convenience.

To do so, all you need is to install GRG false ceilings with sufficient headspace. Requirements may vary, but in general, it requires you a minimum of 7 1/2- feet ceiling height for new construction.

The key to installing the false ceilings is using the right tools. Luckily, installing a false ceiling isn't that difficult and requires no expensive equipment. However, if you want to cover the ceiling from medium size to large room, then you may need some help to install it.

Most of the tools you need either for suspended or tile ceilings are the same, including 20'-25' metal tape, straightedge, nails, putty knife, a ladder, straightedge, face mask, safety goggles, a pencil, chalk line, tiles, a coping saw, ganer wire and cross tees.

Steps To Install False Ceiling

  • First, take all the required measurements of the ceiling from wall height to its width from each room where you want to install the false ceiling.
  • The ceiling levelling is done with water because many times the slabs are not properly levelled. The ceiling needs to be on one level for the correct installation of a false ceiling.
  • After you finish the levelling procedure, start marking. Marking is done on the ceiling with a distance of 4 feet. Mark also on the side walls at the height where the false ceiling will be suspended below the existing ceiling.
  • Make the ceiling levelling with water because many times the slabs are not levelled. The ceiling should be on an equal level for the correct installation of a false ceiling.
  • After completing the levelling procedure, do marking on the ceiling at a distance of 4 feet each. Installing GI Grid hooks are metal ceiling angle strip that can fix to the ceiling. These fitting become the chief support points of the false ceiling.
  • Once the GI Grids are fixed, now it's time to start work on framing. For framing, the perimeter is fixed on the wall at a height where the false ceiling will be suspended.
  • Once the framework is done, hung the false ceiling with GI Grids.
